Sisters and Brothers,

I would like to take just a moment to discuss the General Grand Chapter International Headquarters, the Belmont Mansion in Washington, DC.  The Mansion was built in 1906 by Mr. & Mrs. Perry Belmont.  It was designed by French architect Eugene Sanson and is located on an acute angled site.   Literally every square foot of buildable space is occupied with the mansion.  It is filled with beautiful antiques, architecturally beautiful features throughout the building and priceless artifacts collected over the years.

As with any building that is over 100 years old, there are always areas that need repair or refurbishing.  Phase I collected funds for repair of the Original Otis Elevator.  Phase II was added to solicit funds for the replacement and restoration of the roof and built-in gutter system on the upper level.  The latest request has now been officially named by the Right Worthy Grand Trustees as the fund for
Preservation and Restoration of the Belmont Mansion at 1618 New Hampshire Avenue, NW, Washington DC”.

Please consider a chapter or personal donation for this endeavor.  The attached Form shows that there is still a pin of the Belmont Mansion along with one ribbon available for a $100 donation, as well as other star point color ribbons for additional donations of $20 each.  Memorials or honorariums are also wonderful ways to commemorate special people or groups in your life.  A Book of Honor has been created to recognize donations of $1,000 or more.  $5,000 and $10,000 donations are also recorded in the Book of Honor and memorialized by plaques in the Hall of Honor display on the Second Floor between the Gold Room and the Formal Dining Room.  The Most Worthy Grand Matron, Sister Helen Westmoreland, has also stated that chapters are allowed to have special fund raisers to support this project, if they wish.  Dinners, Silent Auctions or Bakeless Cake Sales are just a few examples.  Please make copies of the form for distribution to members and interested parties.

Make checks payable to General Grand Chapter and note on Memo Line:  Preservation and Restoration.  Mail to General Grand Chapter, OES, 1618 New Hampshire, NW, Washington, DC  20009-2549.  Please send a copy of the form to me so that I can include total donations in my report at General Grand Chapter in 2018.    Thank you for your support.  We have a beautiful, historical Mansion that is a great piece of history and should consider it an honor to preserve it for the future.
